Our vision for the hotel is to create an unexpected union of sustainability and luxury, previously unexplored in Mayfair.

Working with artisan makers and creators we have dreamt of a place that is relaxed and comfortable whilst offering a pared back aesthetic with exceptional attention to detail. Key to the design is authenticity – in terms of the passion of all the craftspeople involved in the project and its materiality.

Located in the heart of London opposite Green Park, the building is a partial refurbishment project – a conscious decision taken to reduce the CO2 emissions and reimagining the hotel with sustainability considered throughout.

A calm decompression from the city

On entry through the bespoke bronze doors, guests experience the sound of water on arrival – walking through a modern take on the elegant Elizabethan cascades – to promote calm and a decompression from the city.
Raw edged stone fins extend 7 metres to the ceiling of the double height space in a grand gesture, concealing the lifts with planting interwoven.

Guests journey beneath a green chandelier with changing planting to be curated throughout the seasons. The large-scale circular lighting piece by French artist Patrick Nadeau has been specially commissioned for the hotel and is a playful nod to the traditional Mayfair interiors with classic chandeliers – contemporised.

The reception desk showcases the wonder of nature – a weathered, solid tree trunk from the Balcombe Estate in Sussex. Handpicked by the design team for its depth of texture and form, it symbolises the hotels commitment to sustainability and the celebration of the beauty of the natural world.

Traditional dry stone walls in the Reception and Dover Yard bar are formed from reclaimed stone walls in Yorkshire, brought down from the north of England and built by hand using traditional techniques. A celebration of British heritage that have been part of the landscape of the UK for thousands of years.

Impactful sight lines

This open nature of the Lobby and Reception provides impactful sight lines throughout the ground floor spaces.
At one end a striking artwork by Steve McPherson entitled 'Flow' - a narrative on sea plastics, waste and reuse can be found in Neighbours, a vibrant cafe.
The space is transformed in the evening through the use of sliding rattan panels, opening up to display Aperitivo spirits and an atmospheric antique mirror.

Dover Yard Bar

Dover Yard provides a comfortable and exciting place to rest and play.

The layout connects the bar visually to the internal circulation of the hotel through full height shelving, thoughtfully styled with considered books accessories, and a double sided fireplace.

Oversized cork pendants are a sustainable and playful addition to the space.

The top of the bar is a feature glass vitrine, displaying a bespoke commissioned art piece by British artist Kate MccGwire. Working with natural feathers, Kate acquired hundreds of pigeon feathers, some of which feature their racing numbers or message printed on the individual feather, creating a fun talking point at the bar.

Moss 2

Soothing greenery

Guests are welcomed with a wall of preserved moss that is dramatically lit as the focal piece, setting the scene, and adding soothing greenery into each room. This moss frames the water filter at the arrival; eliminating single use plastic from the hotel experience.

Luxury and serenity

A glass screen between bedroom and bathroom is incorporated to open up the space and draw natural light in.
A built-in banquette for desk, dining activities as well as a comfortable sofa further maximises the space. Each piece of furniture works hard and adds to the feeling of luxury and serenity.

Laid-back luxury

Suites offer a variety of stand-out furniture pieces, such as hand-crafted sisal coffee tables and smoked timbers to mirrors. Playful feature pieces such as the hammock look out across the Dover Yard courtyard and provide a memorable ‘moment’.
In the bedrooms the bespoke timber panelling displays the history of craftsmanship and quality of Mayfair, whilst surrounding guest with textured finishes and laid-back luxury.

Penthouse Suite

The standout space in the 1 Hotel Mayfair, imagined as a garden room due to its prime position at the corner of the building overlooking Green Park, the Penthouse Suite is 200sqm of luxury living. Inspired by the tonal palette of the park – where flowers are forbidden by Royal decree – the suite applies natural textures to bring drama and play with light and shade.
